GoPro Hero 3 to 5

These cameras connect via Wi-Fi only so it is important to ensure that you are connected to your GoPro's Wi-Fi network when you want SoloStorm to control your GoPro.

  • Check that you can preview your GoPro via the GoPro app (take note of the camera name when pairing with the GoPro app, this will help identify the correct device later in SoloStorm settings)
  • Check that your GoPro Wi-Fi network is turned on the camera (see GoPro instructions for your specific camera)
  • Check that your device is connected to the GoPro Wi-Fi network OUTSIDE of the SoloStorm/CircuitStorm app
  • Check your SoloStorm configuration
    • SoloStorm > Main Menu (top left 3 bar button) > Settings > Video Capture and Analysis
    • Wi-Fi Camera check the following:
      • Wi-Fi Camera Source:  confirm you have selected the right GoPro version here
      • Wi-Fi Camera SSID: tap to select your GoPros Wi-Fi network



GoPro Hero 6+

These cameras utilize Bluetooth for an initial connection but ultimately the data connection between your phone and the GoPro is still over Wi-Fi.  The GoPro app uses Bluetooth to automatically set your phone's Wi-Fi to connect to the GoPro camera.  Follow the app instructions to get the camera connected to your phone.

  • Check that you can preview your GoPro via the GoPro app (take note of the camera name when pairing with the GoPro app, this will help identify the correct device later in SoloStorm settings) 
  • Check that your GoPro Wi-Fi network is turned on the camera (see GoPro instructions for your specific camera)
  • Check that you are connected to the GoPro Wi-Fi network from your phone Wi-Fi settings
    • These versions of GoPro cameras will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi when you connect but it's good to check and force it to connect if possible
  • Check that your phone Bluetooth is paired and connected to your GoPro camera
  • Check your SoloStorm configuration
    • SoloStorm > Main Menu (top left 3 bar button) > Settings > Video Capture and Analysis
    • Select Wi-Fi Camera, check the following:
      • Wi-Fi Camera Source:  confirm you have selected the right GoPro version here (6+)
      • Camera Bluetooth Address: tap to select your GoPro camera
        • IMPORTANT: Your camera may not show as the name you gave your GoPro in the GoPro App.  You may have to look for a generic "GoPro 1234" name




ALL GoPro versions - Advanced

If above steps don't work, more drastic steps may be required as the GoPro software can get hung up.

  • Hard restart your GoPro camera
    • Do this by removing the GoPro's battery and leaving it off for 30+ seconds
  • Reset your GoPro Wi-Fi settings
    • Follow Go-Pro instructions to reset the Wi-Fi network on your GoPro
    • Confirm/re-connect through the GoPro App
  • GoPro Firmware reset
    • Follow Go-Pro instructions to re-install your GoPro firmware
    • Re-connect through the GoPro App
    • Check SoloStorm is connecting to the correct device/wi-fi
